| I know it's been discussed before, but I still don't understand why the Wing doesn't hand out two Ensemble Awards. Watching STEREOPHONIC the other day and then seeing the two- and three-way races in Supporting Actress and Actor in a Play, it seems so pointless not to. There are so many pieces that call out for it. STEREOPHONIC's cast is just so ridiculously tight and humming that I don't want to see any one person triumph over a castmate. (And the two unnominated actors are just as good as their brethren.) At the SAG Awards the Ensemble Award is the capper of the night. Not that it needs to be at the Tonys, but I think it's a television-friendly opportunity to see the whole gaggle up onstage with one person deputized to give a speech. And then award Will Brill or Sarah Pidgeon individual awards afterwards. But recognize the joy of a cohesive cast in full flight. |
